Whenever we are thinking about joining an MLM company one of the first things we need to look for is a good company.  A company that provides a product that will actually offer some sincere value to people’s lives.  For me that rules out a lot of companies!  But the 2nd thing we need to carefully consider is who should be our sponsor?

To a large degree our success will be determined by the coaching that you get from your sponsor, particularly if you are new to the business.  From the horrific stories that I have heard over the last few months it seems that there are a lot of so called mlm coaches that are not delivering the goods.  I have heard of people being completely ditched by their upline soon after joining up or being extremely difficult to contact and unwilling to spend time coaching their new recruits.  This ‘take the money and run’ mentality is one of the reasons why there is still some stigma attached to the MLM industry.

Have you experienced a hideaway sponsor before?

If so then I really do feel for you.  In my very first MLM company I experienced that same thing.  It got to a point where it was actually difficult for me to get my commission cheques out of my upline!  At that point I was not a ‘direct distributor’ therefore was only at 25% override on product sales and my payments had to go through my upline.  Countless telephone calls chasing my money actually ended up with me going round my sponsor’s house!  They did pay up there and then

So what should we look for in an MLM coach and sponsor?

You want to look for someone who is already having success in their business otherwise it’s a case of the blind leading the blind, you want someone who holds high personal values and is determined (this will be evident in how they present themselves on the telephone, in person and on company presentations).  You ideally want to find someone who has a larger and more powerful vision than you do, if you spend enough time observing them you too will soon pick up that vision for yourself.  If a sponsor has a powerful vision they will be leading by example, they will also have a powerful recruiting system that you can duplicate and implement into your own business.

It goes without saying that you want a sponsor that is contactable, this is especially important for any online venture as some people tend to hide away behind their computer.  I don’t care what anyone says, in MLM this does not work, you must still be prepared to pick up the telephone!  Test out your proposed sponsor before signing up, get them on the phone, see how helpful they are, but don’t waste their time with silly questions, they should be too busy for that.  Be sure to ask them specifically what training and coaching they will give you AFTER you have signed up.

The best sponsors I have found are the ones that offer the greatest value.  Before you even sign up them you will feel like an expert from all the knowledge that they have passed on to you via free training materials.  These are the sponsors that actually care about your individual success over and above the money you put in their pocket.  There are some people in this world who just love to help others and see the fruits of their teaching.  There is no greater feeling for me than passing on knowledge and information to others that will enable them to change their life for the better.  It’s like a universal flow of energy that passes through you, as you help others get what they want you get more of what you want (Zig Zigler says the same thing and it’s very true)

A good MLM coach will offer you regular training and they will also teach you how to be a great sponsor to your team.

Oh my! You have been searching around for the term, ‘cheap mlm leads’? or something like it? Does that mean that you are considering actually paying for your mlm leads and are looking for a good deal?? If so please STOP and read my blog post before you spend any money at all!  I want to share a little secret with you first

I myself have never paid for MLM leads and never would but I do know some of my fellow marketers have paid for leads before at cheap and expensive prices. Most of them regret the day that the idea ever popped into their head and have ended up wasting hours on the phone making calls to so called ‘warm’ leads. These leads often turn out to be dead numbers, dead beats or people that are just hands down not interested!

There are a lot of companies about these days cashing in on the lead business. In my previous life as a mortgage broker I actually sampled a few purchased leads and the conversion rates from them were diabolical. MLM leads are no better, in fact they are worse.

My friend, if you are considering buying leads for your MLM business then I want you to stick with me and learn a better way. The problem with the leads sold by these companies is that they have mostly already been flogged to death. They are often obtained from research companies that send out generic questionnaires to households across the country, you may have received one yourself. They are very general in nature and rarely produce qualified leads. These companies then make an educated guess on what these people might be interested in and then go on to sell them as ‘targeted’ leads.

Another major problem with trying to recruit ‘paid for’ leads is that when you call them the common response is ‘who the hell are you?’ or words to that effect. Most of these people have either completed a generic questionnaire or a business opportunity online opt in form. There has been no relationship formed between you and them so why should they trust or even listen to what you have to say? The whole point of prospecting (if you’re doing it right) is to build a relationship and trust with your prospect, this is done by offering massive value and providing the solutions that they are looking for and by general interaction.

In my opinion (and many other network marketers) buying MLM leads is a waste of your money and then it’s a waste of your time to follow up with them. You are FAR better off generating your own targeted leads and the internet is one great place to do this. If you learn the proper strategies and are willing to put in some work you can be generating your own leads every day into your business. These will be YOUR leads, people that have come to you and are ready and open to receive your communications.

The great thing is that you don’t even have to spend much money to put this into action, starting this week.

Well who would have thought that a cool little social networking site originally created in the Harvard University dorm room of Mark Zuckerberg would have evolved into the world’s number one online social giant that it is today. Originally created as ‘FaceMash’ on October 28th 2003, Facebook as we know it now, is used by over 200 million people across the globe and is ranked as the world’s 2nd most visited website, losing the top slot to the big ‘G’

Facebook has become the preferred social networking platform of marketers over MySpace which is sometimes now known as ‘SpamSpace’. In theory you would think that Facebook would be the perfect place to market your business, having such a reach of people across the world is VERY appealing. Thousands of marketers are using Facebook for their marketing purposes, but to be frank most of them are jerks. They are amateurish spammers. You know the sort of thing I mean, every time you log in you either see a news feed from them or there’s an email waiting for you in your inbox urging you to join their ‘fantastic, best thing since sliced bread, make a million bucks in 2 weeks’ business opportunity.

I’m sure we all agree, spammers are annoying!

So can we effectively market on Facebook? Yes we can, but we need to learn to do it right. Facebook is a social platform and therefore our first and foremost purpose is to develop relationships with people. The gentle pitching of our business opportunities can come later.

When marketing online you need to adhere to the same principles as you would offline. If I wanted to sell my business opportunity to you and we had never met before, do you think that it would be acceptable for me to collar you and say “buy this now! this is exactly what you need! you must buy it now!” and basically try and ram my deal down your throat? No. I would begin by forming a normal friendly relationship, we would chat, get to know each other and see where our interests lie. Later down the road after a few more interactions it would be natural to discuss business and maybe exchange ideas and at that point I might tell you about my opportunity.

It’s the same online, we need to naturally formulate relationships with people and offer them value and gain their trust and understanding BEFORE we start trying to sell anything.

Let’s run down briefly 6 steps that you can take to effectively market on Facebook,

1) Set up your Facebook profile so that it’s interesting and personal to you, don’t just fill it with information about your business but include as much personal information as possible, you want to have plenty of pictures of you and your family.  Show people what you get up to, what your hobbies are, put some pictures up of you having a great time.  People want to learn about YOU not just your business.

2) Add friends so that you can begin networking with people, you can search for groups on Facebook for almost any market niche.  You need to think outside the box though, try to think of groups other than just ‘online marketing, mlm, network marketing’ etc… bear in mind that everyone in these groups is adding each other so you just end up with your news feed being full of inspirational quotes and business opportunity pitches!  Also remember that Facebook has a friend limit of 5,000 so leave some space for your new prospects that come from outside sources.

3) Look for relevant groups that you can join.  Most group owners will allow you to post on the wall so you could post some useful information.  I like to post my videos to group walls when I have published them, my videos will be offering value and NOT pitching my business but it attracts people to my blog and they get real value out of it which puts me in a favourable position and they are more likely to opt-in to my newsletters.

4) Start your own group; this could be directly relevant to your niche.  You can invite your friends to join or you can even use Facebook’s paid advertising system to get new members.  This is a little like building your own targeted list of prospects, so when you have some new information to offer you can literally just send one email and all your members will receive it.  A cool and easy way to communicate with people!

5) You can also post your videos and articles to your own wall and also to the walls of your friends.  That way your content can potentially go viral as many more people are going to see your information and get value from it.  Again remember not to abuse this by spamming with your business opportunity, if you do the most likely end result is that your ‘friend’ will delete you.

6) Create a personal video greeting to your new Facebook friends and tag them to the video.  This is a VERY powerful Facebook marketing strategy and not many people are doing it.  Jim Chao teaches how to implement this for maximum impact in his webinar.

Every Network Marketing business needs leads right?  Without a constant flow of leads your business is dead.  Period.  I am going to show you a free way to generate a daily stream of leads to your website for free.  Well actually it’s not completely free, nothing ever is right?  You will need to invest brain power and some time, if you willing to invest this to blast your business through the roof then this is what you need to do.

How can I get free traffic?

This will only really work if you have a blog or website, so the first step is to set one up if you don’t have one.  The next thing you need to understand is that search engines love fresh unique content and they will give more attention to sites that are updated regularly.  Secondly your webpage’s need to optimized for the search engines, in its basic form this means that your keyword/phrase should be in the title, meta description and a few times in the actual page content.   Don’t overdo it otherwise you will get penalised for keyword stuffing, also when you write your content write it for your reader.  There is nothing more annoying than an article that keeps mentioning the same key phrase over and over again, the Google robots will find it annoying too and your webpage will drop in the rankings like a lead balloon!

Thirdly we want to be clear that having quality backlinks pointing to your webpage’s are going to boost up your ranking positions in the search results for your chosen keywords/phrases, watch my video on how to improve search engine rankings & backlinks to learn more about backlinking.

Ok so what we want to do here is 2 fold, we want to get our webpage’s ranked highly in the search engines so that we can get targeted traffic and secondly we want to have our content in as many places as possible to get traffic from sources such as article directories, video sites and social networks.

Here are the steps in brief…

1) Create a piece of content; this can be something like your reading right now.  An article or blog post, make sure that it is offering great value to your readers!  keep it fairly short and concise and make sure that what you promise in the article title you actually deliver.  Needless to say the article must be relevant to the keyword/phrase that you are targeting, you want your content to be informative and compelling because when this article reaches the main directories you want readers to click through to your links.

2) Put that original piece of content onto your blog or website and then bookmark it to the major social networks and bookmarking sites, this can be done with a few clicks using this cool little tool called OnlyWire

3) Create a video about the article you have just written, this can be either you sitting in front of the camera talking about the subject of your article or a PowerPoint presentation or even just a simple screen capture (I like to use a combination of all three).  The key here is to promote your piece of content that you have just written, you want to leave viewers in suspense so that after they have watched your video they will want to click through to your website to find out more information.  You then need to upload it to all the main video and podcast sites.  You can either do this manually (it will take you about a week) or you can use TubeMogul (they don’t accept MLM related videos and don’t have many video sites on their system) or you can use Traffic Geyser, the ultimate video marketing tool, check them out here and you will see what I mean.  Video is the fastest way to get into Google’s search results, you can see some proof of its effectiveness by watching my keyword research video.

4) You need to take your original article and spin it and then submit it to as many article directories as possible.  If you were to do this manually then it would take you several weeks per article.  I use a cool little tool called Automatic Article Submitter to do all of this for me and it even creates and confirms all my author accounts!  Click the link for more information and also to get a discount on the purchase price.

5) Spread the word about your new blog post/article to your social networks like Twitter (gently does it, don’t spam!)

In a nutshell that’s it.  You need to do this consistently.  For the next 100 days take one piece of content and promote it, over a few weeks you will see your traffic begin to grow on a daily basis as your rankings increase in the search engines and as more people read your content which is now syndicated all over the place.

For anyone that has been involved with the MLM industry for any length of time you will know how much of an arduous struggle it can be. It’s a fact that 95% of the people who get involved with this industry usually end up spending more than they make! This is what happened to me in my early days. I first got involved with a health & vitamin company about 7 years ago and whilst I did make some money from selling the products on the internet I was never able to recruit a strong downline. I spent a lot of my time on non productive activities such as chasing my friends and family, desperately trying to convince them that my opportunity could make them rich, even knowing full well that it wasn’t working for me.

Are You an ‘Opportunity Hopper’?

Many folks in this industry are ‘opportunity hoppers’ they hop from one opportunity to the next hoping that the next one they join will make their dreams come true. Look, the network marketing business model is without a doubt the most powerful method on the planet for building wealth but you have to stick with it and MASTER the techniques and principles that drive people to take action. This was a big problem for me in the beginning and for the next 5 years I floundered around with offline methods such as leaflets drops, handing out those annoying opportunity cards and cold calling. Whilst being at the point of quitting and succumbing to the fact that I would be stuck in a JOB (Just Over Broke) for the rest of my life I had the bright idea of building my business on the internet. It made sense as instantly I have a database of potentially millions of leads, but like many people who turn to the internet I was still banging my head against a brick wall as I didn’t know how to market online.

I’ve spent a large amount of money on various training courses and materials to learn internet marketing and I can tell you that it DOES work, provided you are willing to put in the manual labour necessary to get your business to take off. One of the problems I have always faced in network marketing is that the typical company sells products that are overpriced.  They have to be overpriced in order for commissions to be paid to the organisation levels above.  Deep down we all know that you can get the same product in a high street store for half or less of the price and the product will be as good, if not better quality, I know there will be some distributors who are 110% devoted to their companies that will probably be fuming at such a statement, so I do apologise but that’s my view on it (feel free to prove me wrong!)  Regardless of whether distributors admit it or not, deep down we all know that usually the products are there just as an excuse to pass money around so that people further up the chain get rich off everyone else’s auto ship.  I end up with cognitive dissonance so I won’t join such companies.

If you’re a coin collector, or if you just love money (who doesn’t) and are concerned about its decreasing value in today’s economic climate and would like to solidify your riches in Gold & Silver. The Numis Network might be for you!

The Numis Network is venturing into unchartered territory in network marketing. They are tapping into the graded gold & silver coin collection industry and adding a network marketing compensation plan to it. The network was founded by Mike Mezack, Jake Kevorkian, Christopher Kent & Ian Cordell, all have had extensive direct sales experience with Mike currently selling graded coins on television!   The sale of silver & gold certified coins is a 10 billion dollar industry in the US and a whopping 100 billion worldwide, so it’s certainly an active market and one that has exploded with growth over the last few years.

You might be asking what is a graded coin? In a nutshell it’s a bullion coin issued by the US (or any other) government that has been certified for authenticity by an independent third party, various factors will depend on the coins value such as weight, content & purity. It is then ultrasonically sealed into a container and then ready for sale to the millions of collectors on the planet. Silver & Gold prices have exploded recently and people know that these coins are actually worth having so you would think that this network would do very well! When asked what their goals were in the company presentation video Mike Mezack replied ‘to become the largest retailer in the world of certified and graded silver and gold modern issued coins’ presently the only coins I could find on their site was the American Eagles, but hey they are just getting into gear, I guess? As far as the compensation plan goes they operate a binary network compensation plan with a left & right leg which are paid down on unlimited levels. They also reward you for team members that become ‘Training Qualified’

In the company presentation video Mike Mezack was asked what training is provided, his reply was simply that they make training videos. Having investigated further I discovered that you actually have to pay for the training, this is certainly rather unorthodox as most network marketing companies give you their training for free. Unfortunately if you’re someone who is new to network marketing and you are relying on just the Numis network training you are in for a tough time. From what I can work out they offer a company replicated website with back office, business presentation videos and numismatic videos for you to watch along with some company produced sales training videos (which I have seen a sample of).

Anyone who has been in network marketing for any amount of time will know that just pitching a company replicated website which is exactly the same as every other distributors website is not really going to deliver any significant, if any, results. They teach nothing about branding YOU and nothing about how to offer people value in order to formulate a relationship, they also neglect to teach any methods of generating leads other than the traditional methods which most of us have already tried without success.

I am not a member of the Numis network and I probably would not join, I’m not a coin collector (maybe I should be). But for anyone thinking of joining it provides a solid business plan in a wildly thriving market which will probably continue to grow. You will however need to get some additional training if you want to make any money.

Are there any advantages to building your mlm business online?  Is it true when some ‘gurus’ say that offline & traditional mlm marketing is dead & buried?  Personally I think not, but if you are not utilising the internet to build your business then as I have found from personal experience you are leaving a lot of money on the table unclaimed.  In this post I cover briefly some thoughts on how you can effectively market your business online.

I know there are a lot of people out there searching for mlm success secrets so I wanted to offer some tips today about building an mlm organization online.  It’s a little different than the traditional offline marketing methods; I personally believe that it has some distinct advantages over offline marketing but should by no means replace offline networking.  MLM is after all about building relationships with people and that cannot be done solely online.  You still need to be willing to pick up the phone and meet people face to face where possible.

Building our business online offers us two distinct advantages, firstly that we are able to contact so many more people than most of us could offline.  Let’s face it, most of us starting out in mlm do not have a vast network of offline business contacts or indeed any significant ‘lead list’ so we are unable to hit the road running.  Secondly the internet offers some VERY powerful leverage, we can automate a large percentage of our workload such as lead generation and following up with prospects by using email marketing.  The internet really is a god send when it comes to prospecting, but once again it cannot totally replace the good old telephone, it just means we don’t have to make those ‘cold’ calls anymore

So if you’re building an mlm business online what are the fundamentals we need to consider?

1) We need to have systems in place, by this I mean we need at least one website.  It is virtually impossible to make money online if you don’t have your own website.  You will need an ‘opt-in’ page where potential prospects can give you their contact details in exchange for something of value.  You might consider offering an e-book or maybe a training course of some description to entice your visitor to opt in.  Just make sure that it’s something of value and not garbage.  You will also need an autoresponder, this will send out emails for you on auto pilot.  You write the messages once and tell the system when to send them out and you’re done!

2) You need to learn how to drive traffic to your website.  Without consistent traffic any internet business is dead in the water.  With regular visitors and a compelling offer you will for sure be getting leads all day long which is fantastic for your business and means you will soon be earning money from affiliate commissions and ultimately new recruits into your business.

3) You need to have in place an efficient sales funnel which will take your prospects through a scientific sales process, in this process they will continue to be offered value and training information for free.  They will also at predefined times be offered products that have a low cost, when they buy of course you will then be making some nice commissions which you can use to fund your marketing expenses.  During their transition through your sales funnel you will be building a relationship and trust with these people with your regular contact and by offering value.  Of course the ultimate aim is then to gradually increase your prospects exposure to your primary mlm opportunity.  Done correctly this is a very effective method of recruitment and one that will build a base of customers that you can sell to over and over again.  Ever heard the saying ‘the money is in the list’?  It’s true

Done correctly marketing your mlm online is a lucrative business model in itself which will bring you great success, but does not replace personal human contact, it should in theory increase it!  Because you will have so many more people to talk to.

I wanted to review someone today that has taken the MLM industry by storm. If your involved with online marketing you have probably heard about him!

David Wood is by far the most inspirational, spirited and talented individual that I have ever encountered. ‘Oh to touch the hem of his garment’ – well maybe not quite, but when it comes to mlm David has certainly got it nailed down to an art and yes I believe that sponsoring in MLM is indeed an art. Hey guys, I’ve been getting a few people asking me about using videos to promote their business online.  Videos are a great way to market because Google LOVES videos!  It’s realistic to post a video to one of the main video sites like YouTube, Metacafe or Viddler and have it show up on Google Page 1 the following day.  I know because I’ve done it (watch the video for proof)

So there we have it, using some simple little videos we can get into the first page of Google very fast.  The video I just showed you was just a simple screen capture video and it has pulled in 38 leads for free, not bad for a few minutes work! If you have been involved with MLM for any length of time you will know that it’s sometimes difficult to get the help that you need to build your business. You may even be one of those unfortunate people that never hear from their upline again after they sign you up.

That really annoys me when I hear of folks signing up to an mlm and their upline then abandons them offering them no help, it gives the industry a bad name and leads to the new recruit failing in their business and possibly quitting and leaving the industry.

Anyway I wanted to talk today about mlm help as I believe that in traditional mlm it’s quite severely lacking, often the traditional training and help offered by uplines is pretty standard, such as drawing up a list of prospects, talking to friends and family, strangers, cold calling etc… You know the score with that I’m sure! You will get some success with this but it will be limited because you will quickly run out of people to talk to!

I get a lot of folks asking me if they could use the internet to build their business and the answer I give them is a big resounding YES. But remember that MLM is a people’s business. There is a lot of people who think that you can just set up a website and never have to talk to anyone and the money will roll in, well that will never happen I can assure you! If you are someone that does not like talking to people then mlm is not for you. Period. You and those that you sponsor must be willing and able to engage with other human beings and formulate relationships on a business and a personal level and offer solutions and help. So how can we do this online?

Some of the best mlm help I can offer is to think about the internet as just one big giant communication tool, one that spans the whole globe. You are using the internet to reach more people than you ever could offline. You do this using the written word, emails, audios and videos, using these methods you can talk to people and they can get to know the real you and begin to trust you. This may or may not be news to you but people will join your mlm because of YOU, yes that’s right, they will want to work with you because they see you as someone that can offer value/experience. Still to this day there is a certain level of automatic scepticism that surrounds a person’s mind when you mention ‘mlm’ or ‘internet business’ probably because of all the scams that have been and gone. Your job is to help break down that scepticism and how do you do that? Just be YOU and build relationships!

There are all too many people out there who seem to think that because they have taken their business online they have an automatic ticket to wealth and that it’s just simply a case of spamming the social networks and search engines with a load of promotion hype or company replicated website. Well more fool them! Let them get on with it, with all that marketing ‘noise’ going on it’s easier for us to shine through in glory with our personable, honest approach.

So when offering people mlm help I always tell them to make sure that their follow up system is effective. Make sure that there is as much of your personal spin on your follow up process as possible, have plenty of videos and audios so that folks get plenty of opportunity to find out who they will be working with if they sign up. Let folks get to know you and they will begin to like and trust you, which means a profitable business arrangement for you and them!

I have just spent the last 60 minutes listening to a webinar by the much respected online MLM guru Norbert Orlewicz who has kicked off 2010 by sharing his Mindset coaching Blueprint for 2010.  WOW! A little under six months ago my back was against the wall, I mean really my financial situation was diabolical; I had been involved with my MLM company for about 2 years.  I really had tried my hardest and did everything that my upline taught me, prospected friends and family, talked to strangers about my business, handed out flyers, door to door all to no avail.  Not to mention the fact that I had spent hundreds of pounds on training materials and courses.  In all honesty I was actually losing money and not making any.  I ended up with a load of credit card debt and no income.

I can safely conclude that those of you who know about how search engines work and reaching page 1 will have the same opinion with me when I say that backlinks are one of the top reasons why your site will get to the top! Of course if they don’t cost anything then everyone loves that!.

If you are new to internet marketing then very briefly a backlink is basically another link from someone elses website that is directed at your website, sometimes they are called inbound links.  So let’s say for example you wrote an article and put a link in the author resource box that points back to your website, that is a backlink! Seems simple enough right? Another example is if you asked someone to put a link on their site to yours.

It is within reach of most people to attain these backlinks but one thing you should bear in mind is that it’s best to get links from other sites that are relevant to your website.  Lets say your site subject is travelling the world, getting your links from other travelling sites will bring you better results, the reason for this is that the search engines love relevancy.  So every backlink that comes from a similar site will do more for your rankings.  Relevant backlinks will be way more effective for your ranking.

If you are willing to work at it you can make good position for most key phrases, evidently there are some keywords that are just simply too competitive but there are thousands that you can rank for.  The sites with the most incoming links usually win the game, so if you want to outrank your friend, foster more incoming links then they have and providing your content is relevant to your desired key phrase it’s most likely you will get a better ranking.

So its not rocket science.  It’s vital that you are constant, Google especially gets excited when it sees links appearing often to your site, Google will love your site and for that reason will place you higher.  If you create some links and then cease Google may get sad and loose interest in your website and you never want that!

A labourious process it is to get links from other sites and it can also be very time consuming to get your articles published in the directories, Hours I have spent doing this before, it’s not pleasant!  The ideal solution is to have an automated system in place where we can do the work just once then get on with our lives whilst our links are being built for us right?.  Or even better would be to have our backlinks built for us on Auto-Pilot so we don’t have to do anything!

I have had the pleasure of using a system for a while now which has required very little input from me and it has built me hundreds of free backlinks The result of this has been high traffic levels and high sales, which keeps things ticking over nicely!
